Dear Mother,father.
Dear mother and father it's me Lucy. I know that it's been a few months since you have seen me . I am an assisted immigrant and so was pretty much everyone else. I was really sad having to leave you all behind in England but I knew we couldn't stay. When Father couldn't find work after they replaced the workers with new ones, I know that you and father really had no choice but to try and find us a new place. The travel aboard the Charlotte Jane was terrible the sea was awakening it was like a horror movie coming alive right in front of me. It's not that fun here on a ship just waiting reach land. Don't get me wrong I have made a few friends we had loads of activities to kill time and while the hours tick by. I did smell quite bad from the animals on deck is well we did eventually get used to it I guess.

In our cabins there was heaps of space of us to store our trunks I was lucky enough to get a cabin with my friend Anna. I did feel sorry for some families having to sleep in a cabin close to the water closet it sometimes leaked. Even when the animals above urine went through the wooden floors in to some of the cabins. I was lucky it wasn't mine and Anna’s cabin. There was enough food and water to go around I was terrified on the ship there where woman giving birth it was dreadful to see even gales braking mast and sails, No one was quite sure what to do we all managed to fix it but there was also boredom throughout the ship.

Every morning,afternoon and even before the sun went down a man would always lookover to see if he could spot a country ahead or even land perhaps. 5-6 days latter we ran out of food we were all hungry for another 2 days. we did have water I guess but that wasn't enough. Day 2 came the same man went to have a look to see if there was any county or land that he could spot. He saw a glimpse of green the man then yelled out to the captain” Captain Captain” I see land the captain turned the ship.The ship started heading towards it” it was the most BEAUTIFUL thing we have ever seen. I was thinking finally we can leave the ship we did manage to abandoned the ship and land on the strange country there were people of course we asked a couple where we were they said NEW ZEALAND (Aotearoa) we didn’t quite understand the language some of them spoke. We were all hungry as they could tell they offered us some food we walked to a nearby place the food it was divine.

The captain asked where we could all stay some of the children were put into homes and I was one of them my friend was one to. It was ok where I stayed but I missed you Mother and Father alot I dream of when I will be coming home sometimes even have a tear in my eye. When I felt bored or sad I’ll look out the window and watch the sun go down even draw some pitchers of what it be like if I could see you mother and father. I don't really remember the reason why I got sent away but if it was for the best I guess it was.

I hope you get this Mother and Father I wonder if i'll be coming home someday soon or even if you all would be coming to New Zealand please write back Mother and Father.
